Respekt & Umgangsformen

• Always say "Bonjour" when you walk into a shop, a café or a bus. Skipping it comes across as rude.
• Use "vous" with people you don't know. "Tu" is for friends.
• A light handshake is fine. The "bise" (cheek kiss) is for friends: let locals lead.
• Service is included in restaurants. A few coins for good service is a nice extra, never an obligation.
• Keep your voice down on public transport and in churches.
• Smoking is banned indoors in public places, and in many parks and on many beaches.
