• See a travel clinic 4 to 6 weeks before you leave: some vaccines are often recommended.
• Don't drink tap water: drink bottled or filtered water, and avoid ice of unknown origin.
• Altitude sickness is common in Cusco (3,400 m) and Puno: rest the first day, drink water, and go up slowly.
• Dengue and malaria exist in the Amazon: ask a travel clinic.
• Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
