Algeria
The Sahara, Roman ruins and the white Casbah of Algiers. Say salam, and enjoy the hospitality!
Caution: some areas are unsafe
Parts of this country are unsafe or advised against. Check your government's official travel advice before you go and during your trip.
Border areas (Libya, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and parts of the south) are advised against; Sahara trips need an approved agency.

Criminalised or dangerous: high risk
- Same-sex relations are a criminal offence here, with prison sentences.
- Avoid any public display of affection, and think twice before posting photos or personal details online.
- Be very careful with dating apps: police and criminals have used them to set traps.
- Trans and non-binary travellers: the gender marker on your passport is what counts at border checks; carry supporting documents if your appearance has changed.
- If you face discrimination, threats or arrest, contact your embassy right away.
These rules change and depend on your situation: always check with the official sources and your embassy before you leave. GoZzzy gives general information and cannot be held responsible.
