- Tap water is safe to drink. Bring a refillable bottle.
- Return your bottles: most have a deposit (Pfand) you get back at the shop.
- Sort your waste carefully: paper, packaging (yellow), glass by colour, organic, rest.
- Take the train: Deutsche Bahn covers the whole country, and regional passes are good value.
- Rent a bike: German cities are very bike-friendly.
- Stay on the paths in national parks and nature reserves.
