Respect & manners

  • Cover shoulders and knees in churches and monasteries.
  • Don't flush toilet paper in many places: old pipes. Use the bin provided.
  • Tipping: about 5–10% in restaurants is appreciated.
  • Don't touch or take stones from archaeological sites: it is illegal.
  • Greeks often eat late, and lunch can last for hours.
  • An open palm pushed towards someone (the "moutza") is a rude gesture.
