Accessibility & disability
- Historic centres have cobblestones and steps, and Venice has many bridges with stairs: plan your routes.
- EU law gives you the right to free assistance at airports, train stations, ports and bus terminals: ask for it 48 hours before.
- The European Disability Card is recognised here: bring it if you have one.
- Carry your medicines in your hand luggage, in their original boxes, with a prescription or doctor's letter in English.
- Some medicines that are legal at home (strong painkillers, ADHD or anxiety medicines, codeine) can be restricted: check with the embassy before you go.
- Deaf or hard of hearing? In many EU countries the 112 emergency number can also be reached by text, app or video: check the local option before you go.
- Ask hotels for photos or details of "accessible" rooms: the word does not mean the same thing everywhere.
- Guide and assistance dogs follow the same entry rules as pets (microchip, vaccinations): prepare the papers early.
- Hidden disability? The sunflower lanyard is recognised in many airports to ask discreetly for more time or help.
- Check plugs and voltage before charging an electric wheelchair or a medical device.
These rules change and depend on your situation: always check with the official sources and your embassy before you leave. GoZzzy gives general information and cannot be held responsible.
