Respect & manners

• Trekking rules changed: in most protected areas, a licensed guide and permits are now required. Check the latest rules.
• Greet with "namaste", palms together.
• Walk clockwise around stupas and prayer wheels.
• Take your shoes off in temples and homes. Some Hindu temples don't allow non-Hindus inside.
• Don't touch people's heads, and use your right hand to give and eat.
• Ask before taking photos of people and rituals, especially at cremation sites.
