Respect & manners

  • Use your right hand to give, receive and eat.
  • In temples, wear a sarong and sash (often lent at the entrance). Women on their period are asked not to enter Balinese temples.
  • Don't step on the small offerings (canang sari) on the ground.
  • Dress modestly outside the beaches, especially in Muslim areas.
  • Don't touch people's heads, and don't point with your finger: use your thumb.
  • Drug laws are extremely severe, including for small quantities.
